Let us look at a story which helps us to understand now many of the religious traditions came into practice.
Once a rich lady called some friends together for dinner. She bought chicken and just before cooking, she cut half the chicken and threw it into the dustbin. Her friends were very curious by he act. “Why did you do that”? they asked “My mother used to do it but I am not sure whey she did it.” the rich lady replied. So one day her friends went to her mother to get an explanation.
“Well, my mother used to do it so I copied her” the mother replied. The friends were all the more curious. One day all of them went to the rich lady’s grandmother’s house. The old lady was very old and weak and they thanked their stars that they could meet her before she said farewell to this world. “Well”, she began feebly when the question was put to her, “ at that time we just had a small cooker and we didn’t have a refrigerator, so there was no option but to throw away what didn’t fit in the cooker. At that time chicken wasn’t as costly as today.”
This is how most of our religious practices are. We just don’t question why we do it.
